Most School districts allow for what’s called “Independent P.E.” Qualifying will vary depending on your school district. Private instruction P.E. has been created to allow students who spend a good amount of time participating/competing in a particular sport that is not offered at the school. It becomes a graded course, that is usually on a pass/fail basis. Sounds good, right?
The basics for qualifying (check your school district website for exact requirements):
- Do you participate in a sport that is not offered at the school? Or not offered at the level you are currently performing?
- Are you a member of the organization that the district requires for Independent P.E.?
- Do you have a coach/trainer (remember you will be graded)?
- Do you spend 5 or more hours in your sport per week?
- Do you compete?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, you likely qualify! Common sports for this include gymnastics, fencing, equestrian, classic ballet, surfing, tennis and likely others depending on your district.
Play your passion and be well.
